NEC Electronics solutions are extremely versatile, catering to a variety of design needs. Here are just some of the ways our customers are putting our ASICs to work.
Cell-based ASIC Successes
Nortel Networks BayStack 470 Ethernet Switch
Part of the successful Nortel Networks BayStack family, BayStack 470 switches are stackable 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Layer 2 switches designed to provide high-density desktop connectivity for mid-size and large enterprise wiring closets. NEC Electronics' embedded DRAM technology is used in several ASICs in the system.
IPSTAR Broadband Satellite Terminal by ECC
This integrated, low-cost, high-speed, two-way satellite terminal was deployed on Shin Satellite's IPSTAR system. It features an NEC Electronics' ASIC with an embedded processor.
Gate Array Successes
Garmin® GPSMAP® 192C Marine GPS Receiver
Garmin's high-end GPS receiver, designed for marine applications, employs our CMOS-10HD gate array to power its satellite signal processing. Garmin selected this ASIC solution, designed in a 0.25 µm process, for its balance of gate density, speed and low NRE costs.
PC Boards for the Rockwell Automation® MicroLogicx Family
NEC Electronics' CMOS gate arrays power several Rockwell automation products. NEC Electronics' gate arrays can be found in the MicroLogicx 1200 and 1500 base units, the PC SLC 500 programmable controller and the compact I/O controller. NEC Electronics' solutions offered the right mix of price, reliability, packaging and technical support to meet Rockwell's design needs.
LeWiz has used NEC Electronics' solutions for a variety of products. The TALON3008 PCI Express NIC, the MAGIC2028-4P host bus adapter (HBA) board, the MAGIC2028-2P dual-port HBA and the MAGIC2028-10G single-port HBA all use a 150 nm ASIC developed using advanced tools and libraries including PCI Express IP from NEC Electronics. The capabilities and helpfulness of the physical design team and a reasonable cost structure were additional factors in LeWiz' decision to use NEC Electronics solutions.
SiliconStor SS1300 Active-Active Mutiplexer
The SiliconStor SS1300 enables the rapid adoption of lower-cost, higher-capacity Serial ATA (SATA) hard drives in enterprise storage applications. SiliconStor utilized NEC Electronics' 150 nm ASIC featuring a Serial ATA IP core to create the multiplexer. Mature 0.15 µm process technology, silicon-proven SATA IP and NEC Electronics' world-class support model, gave SiliconStor the perfect solution.
