About RSS
What is RSS?
RSS is a Web content syndication format that enables syndication of content updates occurred at a site to its subscribers.
Simply speaking, RSS informs you the newest updates occurred at your site of interest without having you visiting it; it is much like knowing what is on sale at your favorite stores without visiting each of them in-person.
Why RSS?
In an information-intensive age where we all live in, RSS delivers the up-to-date information right to you while saving you the time and the energy of visiting the sites of interest. As an added bonus, you will have better control over the information without the worry of being spammed in your email account.
How Do I Use RSS?
In order to use the RSS feeds from NEC Electronics site, you will first need a RSS reader that will read the news items from the RSS feed of your choice. Please refer to "Where Can I Get RSS Readers" section in the page.
Generally speaking, RSS readers could be categorized into web-based and application-based. The main advantage of using web-based is that it allows you to access your news items (after user registration) wherever there is an Internet access; whereas application-based allows you to read the RSS offline at a relatively higher speed. You may think of the difference as using web-based email, such as Yahoo, and application-based email program, such as MS Outlook.
After you have chosen the RSS reader, the next step is to choose the RSS feeds that you would like to add into your reader. There are more than one feed available at NEC Electronics websites and more may be made available in the future. Please check the "About NEC Electronics' RSS Feeds" in this page for any newly added feeds.
When you come across a RSS feed of your interest in a page, you can follow one of the following two methods to add it into your application-type reader. For a specific instruction on how to add feed into your reader, please refer to the instruction provided by your RSS reader.
- Copy & Paste
- Right-click on the RSS's XML link or
icon and select "Copy Shortcut" (IE) to copy the URL location of the RSS feed.
- Paste the URL into your RSS reader's "Add Feed" input field by pressing "Ctrl" and "V" key combination.
- Drag & Drop
- Open the application-type RSS reader that you have installed.
- Drag & Drop the RSS's XML link or
icon into your RSS reader's feed list. (Note: This method may not be available depending on your RSS reader)
Where Can I Get RSS Readers?
There are several kinds of RSS readers available both for free and license-based. We have listed a few of them on the right panel titled "RSS Readers".
Please note that NEC Electronics does not actively promote any feed readers and we only provide the list here for visitor's convenience. To look for other RSS readers, you can do a search with keywords such as "RSS readers" in your favorite search engine.
